You are off out for the evening. Everybody is waiting for you. Your mobile is essential; there is no way you can leave home without it. How would you meet up with everybody or order that taxi? You might miss an important text or email message and you need to check a few things on-line. This is the modern age. We can no longer afford to be distanced from our mobile phones. You check it and the battery is nearly flat. You check your spare battery. It is flat also. Now what do you do? It will take at least 30 minutes to get sufficient charge to last the evening. You should have checked earlier. This will soon be a scenario from the past. In the future you will plug your mobile phone into the charger and 10 seconds later it will be fully charged. How can that be? The answer concerns that new buzzword nanotechnology. Your phone will currently be using what is called a lithium ion battery. They are great batteries to use because they are very light and will hold a lot of charge. The problem is that they can only be charged quite slowly. The reason for this is that all those lithium ions that have been made while releasing electrons to power your phone have to be converted back to their original state and this takes quite a time. Now a new type of lithium ion battery has been invented that uses nanotechnology. The battery cathode (that’s the negative end) is made of nano-sized balls of a chemical called lithium iron phosphate coated in another chemical called lithium phosphate. These balls are only 50 nanometres in diameter, which is just about the size of a virus. It turns out that these nanospheres are super efficient at absorbing the lithium ions during the battery recharging cycle. The inventors who work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology believe that if they made a phone battery out of this it would charge in ten seconds. They still have a few little problems to iron out but it is probably not that far away.

Smartphones have always been big business, but this year, they’re set to get even bigger, and a handful of mobile phones in 2009 look set to make them all the more important: the Nokia N97, the Toshiba TG01, and the incredible Palm Pre. Nokia N97 – Symbian for the next generation Symbian’s always been one of the most popular smartphone OS-es in the mobile world, and the latest, touch-based version carries on that fine tradition, in the form of the Nokia N97. However, it’s not just about touchscreens, since the Nokia N97 has also got a full QWERTY keyboard, that will make messaging, live chat and emails a breeze. In terms of what else it can do, the Nokia N97 will also wow you thanks to its 5 MP camera, superb media player (including video playback that’s got to to be experienced to be believed), a massive 32Gb of memory, and HSDPA web access. Essentially, the Nokia N97 is amongst the best phones in existence. Toshiba TG01 – Windows Mobile goes powerhouse While Symbian has gone down the touch-based route, rivals Windows Mobile haven’t been resting on their laurels, and the new fruit of their labours is the hyper-powerful Toshiba TG01. It doesn’t just have the biggest screen ever seen on a mobile phone, coming in at 4.1 inches, but the Toshiba TG01 also has the most powerful processor ever used in a mobile phone. Called Snapdragon, the 1GHz, dual-core processor provides the Toshiba TG01 with sheer power, and because that’s what Windows Mobile needs to live up to its full potential, the Toshiba TG01 is arguably the best WinMo phone to grace us with its presence. Palm Pre – the new hotness However, there’s a new kind on the block, which wants to take the smartphone crown all for itself. The Nokia N97 and the Toshiba TG01 both both have raw power, but what the new Palm Pre goes for is sheer elegance. Using the all-new, never-before-seen ‘WebOS’ powering it, the Palm Pre takes touch-friendly user interfaces and clever design to a whole different level. Take, for example, the new Fandango software which should be available as soon as the Palm Pre is launched. It’s an online cinema booking app, which will let you purchase tickets and watch trailers on the phone. But even the Nokia N97 will most likely be able to do that. The Palm Pre, however, can also automatically add a reminder in your calendar, and get in touch people who’ll be out on the town with you, to organise getting there. It’s that kind of integration, and interplay between software that makes the Palm Pre the most likely candidate for ‘best phone ever’. About the Author –Toshiba TG01, Nokia N97, Palm Pre– Phillip Greene can be considered an expert in the mobile phone field having worked in the industry for over 7 years — he now contributes to the online pages of — http://www.mobileshop.com

A child with special needs and learning disabilities is someone who is different developmentally and formatively from normal children. This is either due to a physical, mental, or emotional handicap, a formative delay, or a particular learning disability. Nowadays, a lot of educational allowances are accessible to families in order to assist them with the extraordinary costs of giving special educational or related services to children with special needs. This, very often could include a very gifted child with certain physical and mental disabilities. Assessment of developmental problems Kids with developmental problems are entitled to educational evaluations as part of the medical clearance process. No sooner has it been suspected than parents ought to describe the child’s developmental problems on their medical history form. This is so that evaluation and treatment plans of the childs educational needs may be devised early in the child’s life. Experts, with special education degrees, in the field emphasize the importance of early intervention. Children with learning problems ought not to be considered abnormal. They just have a different way for handling information. The solution lies in parents and teachers finding out what the childs processing system is as it helps the kids compensate with their strengths. Since developmental problems affect several aspects of a child’s physical and psychological health, oftentimes the assessments are extensive. The assessment of a child having trouble in school could include an educational evaluation as well as the special needs of a child such as speech, hearing, and neurological examinations, plus a series of psychiatric interviews. Processing a childs developmental problem If developmental problem is suspected when parents are abroad, the family should have the child examined by a Regional Medical Officer, Regional Psychiatrist, or Nurse Practitioner. Parents also ought to get written reports from a school so that the problem can be fully understood. It is unlikely that a full assessment will be completed immediately. The complications of the issues often call for a multi-specialty approach. This is why evaluations are usually done. However, a medical evacuation is not normally required. After the assessment is done, the child will be cleared to return to post. Then the school at post will have the benefit of the childs specific educational recommendations in trying to develop a program for the child. However, before the child is cleared for an onward post, a letter from the proposed new school will is required. When making a clearance decision for the child, assessors and the Medical Division often consider the appropriateness of boarding school placement or home study options or online special education courses.

Although online journals of one kind or another have been around almost as long as the web itself, they began to be recognized as a growing phenomena in the mid 1990s and, since the term “blog” itself was coined in 1999, the whole world has come to recognize them as a communication medium to compete with newspapers, magazines, radio and television. Originally, many bloggers were seen as online “exhibitionists”; since they appeared to, merely be exposing their private lives to the prying eyes of millions by writing personal diaries and allowing the world to read them. The effect of many of these personal online journals was to create small online communities of people around those diarists; who would sympathize, encourage and share their own thoughts and experiences. The social networking phenomena of later years was built on just this kind of social network. As more and more people began blogging its reputation, as a medium for the mundane, changed. The private thoughts and intimate journals continue to this day, but the power of a medium which allows instant publishing, to potentially millions, has been slowly recognized and engaged with by millions. Today, you will find blogs on every topic imaginable; from the private angst ridden thoughts of an adolescent to the most up to date industry information by a computer industry insider, or a news reporter in a war torn country. It is the technology of blogging which has allowed these sites to thrive so greatly in such a, relatively, short period of time; to paraphrase Karl Marx: blogs allow the ordinary person to “seize the means of production”; they sidetrack all traditional production cycles and allow a creator to instantly publish whatever they wish. The simplicity of most blogging platforms means that within a few short minutes even the most non-technical person can begin to publish their thoughts, opinions and ideas to the whole of the worldwide web. This is not an appeal restricted to the personal journalist, the ease of use of the platform means that news stories, industry updates and reviews can all be written out in text and published without the need to add any formatting or get to grips with file transfer protocols or html editors. The simple, and instant, nature of blogs is really at the heart of their popularity and wide spread use. Partly because of this wide spread, and wide ranging use, blogs are often quickly available to search engines and will often rank well. Search engine developers are generally agreed that, due to their “home made” and partisan nature, blogs are characteristically the source of unique, original and relevant content, which is regularly updated or added to. Fulfilling these essential criteria, blogs often appear high up on search engine results and frequently appear in results soon after creation. This is enhanced by the fact that most blog authoring tools allow you to blog and ping; what this means is that each time you add to or update your blog, the blog technology will automatically send a signal to a number of servers to let them know your blog has updated. Most website technologies do not include this function and, therefore, have to wait for the search engines to find their new content. For all the reasons that blog platforms have become popular among diarists, reporters, reviewers and other writers, blogging has become popular among internet marketers. The instant nature of blogging allows a marketer to focus upon their message and not spend undue time formatting their site. All blogs, these days, allow an almost instant image change where a wide range of color, text, graphics and layouts are available to choose from. This means a marketer can quickly and easily give their message a unique appearance and make instant changes if they change their mind. The blog and ping feature is also very popular among marketers. The instant publishing followed by quick search engine listing is ideal for most marketers and blogs are quickly becoming an industry standard technology for business people and marketers wishing to get a message out quickly, simply and efficiently. If the personal web page saw the reins of power shift towards the individual, if they had the technical know how to take those reins; then blogs see that power entirely within the range and capacity of all people, for all purposes.

What is it? Mozilla Firefox, often mistaken as the Mozilla Foxfire browser, is a graphical web browser primarily developed by the Mozilla Corporation. A large number of external contributors also aided in its advent. Officially abbreviated as Fx and FF started as one of the Navigator browser components of the Mozilla Application Suite. Foxfire browser replaced the Mozilla Suite as the chief component of the Mozilla project under the order of the Mozilla Foundation. The current stable release of this browser is version 2.0.0.4, released on May 30, 2007. According to W3Counter, 24.82% of the world’s web surfers use a version of firefox browser. Technical Explanation Mozilla Firefox browser is a platform independent browser that can be run on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The source code has unofficially been ported (porting is the transfer of data from one computer to another via a cable that links connecting ports) to other operating systems. These include FreeBSD, OS/2, Solaris, RISC OS, SkyOS, BeOS and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. Legal Issues regarding Porting Since Foxfire browser is free and an open source software, it is freely available. Details of the copyright exemption can be found in the Mozilla tri-license. Features: Tabbed browsing, an incremental find (through Find toolbar), live bookmarking, an integrated download manager and a search system are some of the most powerful features of this Internet browser. Foxfire browser can be customized with downloadable extensions, themes, and advanced preferences that are not present in the Options dialog. These can be accessed through the about: config option. For web developers, this browser provides an environment for using built-in tools or extensions like the built-in JavaScript Console and the DOM Inspector. Add-ons like themes for the browser, extensions like Source Editor, Grease Monkey and IE Tab make special tasks easier; they also improve an user browsing experience. What software standards does it support? HTML XML XHTML CSS ECMAScript or JavaScript DOM MathML DTD XSLT Xpath PNG images with alpha transparency SVG standards Standard proposals created by WHATWG. Security Features SSL/TLS protects communications through this browser with the web servers. This involves strong cryptography when the HTTPS protocol is used. Gen Nxt Foxfire browser Version 3.0, based on Gecko 1.9 (layout engine) and the Cairo graphics library (the rendering layer) is expected to hit the market in November 2007. This version shall not run on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, and Windows NT 4.0 because of a lack of support for Cairo graphics. The Mac version of this browser will only run on OS X 10.3 or higher, but, unlike previous versions, will have a native Cocoa widget interface. Native support shall also be included in Foxfire browser 3.0 for micro-formats along with the missing features from Foxfire browser 2. This includes the overhauled Places system for storing bookmarks and history in an SQL – like backend.
